"Sam's Silver Lining" -- It was hard to resist incorporating the experiences of a close friend into a story. He's not happy about it, but no one will know who he is, so does it matter? This story won third place in a Writers' Journal competition and was published. It appears in Pithy Pieces by a Palmy Penman, so if you want to read my winning story in its entirety, you'll have to buy the book!
"Felicity's Show Flair" -- This story has been in the making since I first began riding. It includes horse incidents that have happened mostly to me, with a few thrown in that thankfully other riders have suffered instead.
"A Scandalous Education" -- This essay was written in response to the events in my church, which elicited a strong response from the parishioners and prompted my novel. Despite its religious topic, it gained a Special Honorable Mention in an essay competition for ByLine Magazine.
